Deadlines

Image
“ Dreams without deadlines are dead in the water. Deadlines are really lifelines to achieving our goals. ” ~ Mark Batterson My cousin sent me a clip of a cussing guru talking about deadlines. I had a good laugh listening to that clip over and over again. Why? Because I was chasing one at the time he sent me the clip – how did he know? As I often do, I looked up the definition of ‘deadline’ and found 3 interesting definitions: a time limit for completion of an assignment; a date on or before which something must be completed; and, a boundary line in a prison that prisoners can cross only at the risk of being shot. That last one must have been the original definition that then came to define the dread that accompanies the other 2 definitions. Deadlines can feel like a countdown to a firing squad! And it gets worse if the person for whom the clock tolls is also a perfectionist! Welcome to my world. Back to my effing guru. . . and I quote, “F* your work deadline: if you m...

The Blacksmith's Chains

Image
There lived a famous blacksmith in Rome, famed all over the world for his unmatched skills. Everything he made was unbreakable; hence, all his goods were respected worldwide and sold in distant markets. One day, Rome was attacked and lost in the war. 30 eminent men of Rome were captured and chained, then led to the mountains to die. The blacksmith was among them. They all managed to survive and dragged themselves to where the blacksmith had landed. When they reached ...

Just as I turned the corner from my house, a massive yellow moon was just coming up – and I had no phone camera on me. My only option at that time was to stand still and take in the majestic sight, drinking in every second of it. I went on my merry way, hoping to get back in time to catch some of it on my phone. I was gone for less than 5 minutes but the moon was gone on my return! Heartsick, I got back to the house to wind down the evening and decided the next best thing to sighting the moon again was listening to Don William’s classic country song – Yellow Moon. Well, the playlist continued crooning one after another of Don’s country hits until one I hadn’t heard in a long time came on. This one is a prayer – and I’ve played it every day of this week since. Lord I Hope This Day Is Goo...
