The Love Of The Game

I participated in the Landmark Forum and the Advanced Course early last year in pursuit of mastery in living an extra-ordinary life. One of the distinctions that impacted me greatly was that I can bring the love of the game into any game of life I choose to play. The game is just a game and it does not contain any love of itself. I bring the love to the game and that is what keeps me playing.

This year begun with me in graduate school pursuing an MBA in Finance. The whole process of re-orientation to the life of a full time employee and part time student, with all its demands on time, energy, imagination, social interaction, discipline among a host of other demands, has been challenging and draining. I started off energized and motivated but have tapered off to fatigue and pessimism.

Until I re-evaluated the reasons I got into it in the first place, who I am and what my values are and the vision I had for which this was the achievement strategy. That brought me back to the distinction - bringing the love of the game into the game.

This week I have reclaimed my love of several games in my life. I am back to my reading which had slacked off, my house is tidy again, am eating and drinking healthy and my attitude is back on track. Heck, am blogging again!

Yet, nothing in my external circumstances has changed - I still have 2 presentations to make, 2 group and one individual term papers are still pending, 4 course texts are yet to be read and the end of semester exams are 4 weeks away. But attitude makes such a difference it's amazing.
