Three Nuggets

The second quarter of 2023 is here. Today is the 97th day of 2023. This week I'm sharing three quotes from James Clear - three nuggets of wisdom.

The most important habit is choosing the right habit to work on.

And you may ask, which habit is the right one?

If you planned your year at the start, this is a good time to go back and see what progress you’ve made on all your goal areas. Where are you on the course? Where are you lagging behind? What is yet to start?

The answers should give you a good idea of where you need to focus your efforts. Get on with it!

A second James Clear quote says:

Ambition is when you expect yourself to close the gap between what you have and what you want.

Entitlement is when you expect others to close the gap between what you have and what you want.

As you review, ask yourself if you’re being ambitious or if you are entitled. Look critically at your action plan and ensure you are keeping yourself accountable and leaving no room to point fingers except at yourself. Your goals should not be contingent upon another person’s performance or lack thereof. Take responsibility for your successes and your failures.

And the third nugget from James Clear is a question to ask yourself:

Does this habit still serve me or am I blindly following an old routine?

A lot of habits fall by the wayside as we move along with life. Some are things we pick up from others around us but we never really own them. Others cease to serve us as we find new ones to replace them. But some we hold on to religiously even when they have stopped serving any purpose in our lives or are indeed harming us. Today, start with a review of your morning routine and ask yourself this question about every part of that routine. Is everything you do serving you or have you become a servant of your habits? Are you holding on to habits that are harming you and isn’t it about time you start loving yourself?

This past week I lost an ardent reader of this blog who has been a fan since the first article. She kept amazing me with feedback about how much one or the other post had touched her heart. I am grateful for the nuggets I was able to enrich her life with but her demise has taught me to value every opportunity I get to touch someone’s life or to be blessed by another’s wisdom into mine. Life is short, make every second count.
