Seven Seven
“Seven days is enough to achieve anything, and enough for everything that was achieved to fall apart.” ~ So-Rie Yoon
Today is July 7th – the 188th day of the year. There are 177 days left to the new year.
In the Bible, 7 often signifies completion or perfection. Unfortunately, in Kenya, 7th July has historically been a day of protests starting from way back during the clamor for multi-party politics. Today is no different – the leader of the opposition has promised the government an epic showdown, once again.
It’s funny that this should be a day of protests in Kenya, 7th July is known as the ‘Global Forgiveness Day’ and also the ‘Global Tell the Truth Day’. Imagine that! Unfortunately, neither will be celebrated here unless we purpose to do so in our individual hearts and minds.
In the recent past, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned on this day in 2022 after pressure from Conservative Party Members who voiced their lack of confidence in him. On the same day in 1996, Nelson Mandela announced on TV that he would not be running for re-election in the 1999 elections. Epic events in politics those ones.
In matters of food, on this day in 1928, the world celebrated the introduction of sliced bread for the first time! The inventor was Otto Frederick Rohwedder and it was first used at the Chillicothe Baking Company in Missouri USA. Yes, that sliced bread you take for granted has not always existed in that form.
Sir Isaac Newton gained a master’s degree from Trinity College, Cambridge, England on 7th July 1668. Have you started yours? And you who started but have never completed your dissertation, what are you waiting for?
Have a birthday today? You were likely conceived on October 14th of the previous year. Are you planning on making a baby today? Your likely date of delivery will be 30th March 2024. You are welcome, I knew you would appreciate it.
If you don’t remember anything else, please remember that today is Global Forgiveness Day. Let someone off your back or chest. Lay down that burden and walk free, no matter who it was or what they did to you. Your heart will thank you for it.
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Amen!
