Of Sunsets And Sunrises

Oh it's my day, to do anything I want to
It's my time, and I'll use it any way I want to
It's my life and I'm responsible for every action
It's all mine, my day, my time, my life

Tarrus Riley - My Day (the chorus)

This is a photo of a sunset somewhere at the Kenyan coast. The sun had done it's duty for the day and it was going to sleep. I still had lots to do and it would be a few hours before I'd follow the sun to my rest.

Last week I met with my accountability partner to discuss my 2021 goals and plans. They are now out there and at least one person will come calling to find out how I performed and why. That is scary! But I've been at this process for some years now and it's borne many fruits for both of us and forced me to be honest about how I spend my time - the 365 days, 52 weeks, 12 months I get every January 1st. Then I went and commited to a 100-day plan and the nightmare begun.

I have a lot to do and anything I consider my "free time" is now a luxury I have to account for vis a vis my goals and the ticking clock. It reminded me of Psalm 90:12 "So teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts." (CSB). I am responsible for every action and every decision I take, including that of snoozing my alarm, skipping a workout, cheating on my eating plan, not making that call. . .whatever it is for you. And I can use my time anyway I want to.

If anything is to be achieved at any time in your life, you have to count the cost, do the budget and find the resources. In my case, for my 2021 goals to be met, my major resource is time. Now that I have done a budget for it, I realize I'm short and I have to steal time from my comfort in order to achive what is important to me. In the Tarrus Riley's song, he says he has his own vision, his own mission, to rule his destiny. I do too. And last year, I allowed the distractions to rule most of my destiny. Not this year.

We need to rule our destinies as well. And it starts with a decision on what you value. Who do you want to become? What is important to you? How do you want to think about this year when it's all over. . .regardless of the external factors? The best time to decide on that was many yesterdays ago. The next best time is now. Hurry and catch up with me as I catch up on my 100-day-challenge goals.

And please remember, we don't get to live forever. You only have the present. Make it count. Make it memorable.

Time is the coin of your life. It's the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you. ~ Carl Sandberg
