The Rain Dance
“If you can’t believe in miracles, then believe in yourself. When you want something bad enough, let that drive push you to make it happen. Sometimes you’ll run into brick walls that are put there to test you. Find a way around them and stay focused on your dream. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” ~ Isabel Lopez
Once upon a time, there was a severe drought in a remote village. Crops were drying up and soon there would be no food for either the villagers or their animals. Everyone was sad and worried, wondering what would happen to all of them.
One day, a monk came to the village and started dancing with enthusiasm. All who saw him thought him insane and news of the mad monk spread far and wide. Soon a crowd gathered around to see him and many started making fun of him.
Suddenly, clouds started rolling in, and soon it was raining heavily. The shocked villagers began asking the monk to forgive them for the mockery, and he was invited to stay in the village. Henceforth, whenever it would be dry, the monk would dance and the rain would come. He became known as the Monk of Rain.
A group of three boys visited the village from the city and heard about the monk of rain. They challenged him to a dancing competition and even told him they could make it rain just as he did.
A date was set and the villagers gathered to watch the competition. The boys started dancing and an hour into it, there was still no rain. The first of them sat down and exclaimed he was too tired to go on. The other two carried on for another hour but also grew tired and sat down before the second hour was gone. Still, it had not rained.
The monk took to the floor and started dancing. One hour passed. Two hours, and still no rain. But the monk kept dancing. Evening came and he was still at it. Suddenly, at 8 pm, it started raining. The monk stopped dancing and the villagers jumped with joy.
In exasperation, the boys asked the monk to show them how he performed this miracle. The monk responded, “I start dancing with the belief that it will rain and keep on dancing till it rains. That’s why whenever I dance, it rains.”
The lesson in this story is that to be successful in any work, start the work with determination to complete it. There will be ups and downs but don’t be deterred by them. Keep working hard, and you will be successful.
Someone I know is working on a really big goal for them. However, they are doubting their ability to achieve it. You will know who you are when you read this – because you’ll be reading this blog today. Dance and keep on dancing until it rains. You can dance and that is all that you are being called to do, for now. If you keep on dancing, the rainmaker will have no choice but to open the floodgates of heaven . . . but only if you keep on dancing. So dance; dance like your life depends on it.
“Those who mistrust their own abilities are being too wicked to themselves, discouraging themselves from doing what they should have been excelling in. if you are good at discouraging yourself, you can’t be a good leader because leadership is built on inspiring others to face challenges.” ~ Israelmore Ayivor
Side note: Mariah Carey’s ‘Make it Happen’ song has been attacking me in the shower all week. Does anyone offer to take it away from me? I really need to find a new shower song that’s within my vocal range . . . please!
